I have 3 Win NT machines on the network. Machine A has a folder 'documents' containing html files. Machine B has apache web server running. I have mapped drive H: on machine B to the folder 'documents' on machine A. In the browser running on third machine C if I type the url http:/apache servername/H:/documents/filename.html it says 'Forbidden, you dont have permission to access <url> on this server.' how do I work around this problem to be able to access the documents remotely through a webserver? I am new to apache!
Thanks in advance.

if all your content is on the h:\ drive and NOTHING else is the machine where the web server is installed, change your document root to h:\docs or whatever u called it. when you open your browser at the root i.e.

http:/apache servername

it will default to the h:\docs folder

I have documents on both machines so i cant set my document root to the shared drive.

when you can't do it with a web server alone. this is where either a directory server comes in handy. that you can do is install another webserver onthe other machine. you can use your main machine to act as a server to the outside but it can call content from the other webserver.

can u put all the content on one machine???

Try using an alias on machine B. Since you have your h: drive mapped to the documents on A add this in your httpd.conf file:

Alias /machinea/ &quot;H:/&quot;

Restart your apache server and from machine C you should be able to go to the url kind of like this:

b url/machinea/

then you while see that machine a's documents show up under there.
