I find in the documents that an alarm option exists to dial a pre-defined number. Does it just announce an alarm exists or does it state anything else about the site name?

I have several locations interested in alarm functioning.
If the alarm simply states an alarm exists we won't have any way of id'ing the system except maybe from caller ID.

I also see an option for SNMP alarm notification. I assume of course network connectivity with the appropriate SNMP monitoring capabilities are needed for this functionality.
Thanks for any great information.

Kevin

From the manual:

The message server attempts to call the string configured in System Parameter 31 — ALARM NUMBER. If successful, the person answering the alarm call hears a message similar to the following:

“Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep. This is an alarm call from message server number 123. Error type XX has occurred. Press star to acknowledge alarm notification or press pound to connect to the modem.” (Note the server number is usually the serial number of the system)

If not acknowledged, the message server disconnects the call after 1 minute and retries it every 10 minutes, until it is acknowledged (the listener presses * ).

Yes, you would need a LAN card in the Octel to do SNMP (assuming the correct software level and features):

Octel 200/300 message servers with LAN, used for digital networking and other LAN based features, support communication with the SNMP manager application and management information bases (MIBs) to supply data about the Octel 200/300 message servers.

Sorry Kevin...

Chuck was answering faster than I ;-))

I was happy with alarm number, as I could tell the landlord in our office building every time his A/C (cooling) system went dead. If this happened, I was called on my cell by the VMX, and told that an alarm of type XX had occured and that I should take immediately action.
What a service!!! Can anyone comply, today??

Please note; This VMX-100 (not OCTEL-100 = PC based system) is the only system with a temperature measuring system.
So if the temp. was too low or high we got alarms from our costumer PBX rooms. Someone even had a service contract on this feature!

doktor, I'm guessing our time zone difference was the biggest factor ;~).

Well, you're right. I am from Denmark, Europe, and I guess that you're from North America?
