My nick is simple plagiarism from the first sci-fi fantasy books I read, "Blade of the Poisoner" and "Master of Fiends" by Douglas Hill. They opened up a whole new world for me. Not to mention loads of cool names which I used for my savegames in "Dark Castle" on the Macintosh. Somehow Annihilannic was the one I stuck with, even though it's painful when I need to spell out my email address to people!

Annihilannic.

Ames, Iowa, USA. Although I sign my posts ‘Andy’, my real name is Andrzej (born and raised in Poland, always open to any good polish jokes). So ‘Andrzejek’ is just a nickname derived from my real name which is way too difficult to pronounce to any Americans I’ve met so far, and I have no idea why. When my boss wants to be extra nice to me she calls me ‘AnJay’

Have fun.

I thought I'd done a bit about my handle but it would appear not, anyway...

Sheffield, UK. My handle is a combination of being an impatient 21 y/o and having a desktop pic at the time of Batman villains (HarleyQuinn being my favourite, strangely it didn't seem to matter at the time that Harley's a woman [wink]).

I, too, thought I'd done this before.

I've been a board gamer for a really long time. When that Internet fad hit, I chose traingamer as a handle - my favorite board game back then was Empire Builder (and lately its direct descendents: British Rails, India Rails, Russia Rails and China Rails). Other favorite games include Merchant of Venus, the Ticket to Ride series and many other Euro- or German style games.

I've been in IT as a programmer / developer / analyst (and several other titles) for over 25 years a really long time and have lived and worked in St. Louis, MO for nearly as long.

No need to apologise Cajun! [smile]

I had a quick search for a previous thread where I'd posted the details but couldn't find one (not sure if that's because it doesn't exist and I've written the description for another forum or because the search still isn't 100%).

So, Andrzejek, how *do* you pronounce Andrzej phonetically? I think it's probably difficult for any English-first-language folks to pronounce since four consonants "ndrz" without any vowels in between are virtually impossible to say using English pronunciation without sounding like radio noise... :) Do tell!

Annihilannic.

Not a newbie as such, but never did introduce myself to this (sub)-forum - and what a brilliant (sub)-forum it is[thumbsup]. Manhunter: One of my all-time favorite films and far superior to its pathetic and weak imitation (Silence of the Lambs).

manhunter2826, wasn't Manhunter based on Red Dragon (the book), and Silence of the Lambs based on the book of the same name (all part of the collection by Thomas Harris)?

Or do you mean the potrayal of Hannibal Lecktor in the two films?

HQ. Yes indeed Sir, both films based on the same book. But, IMO, Manhunter is far superior: the role of the FBI Agent (William Petersen); the portrayal of Lecktor (Brian Cox); the cinematography (beautiful); the soundtrack (chilling); the dialog (crisp, sharp, succinct); and the Aesthetics (influential, no doubt).

(I thought J Foster and Hopkins were really weak in their roles; I found it difficult to take them seriously as actors, especially Hopkins).

Sorry I really didn't explain myself very well there [blush].

I meant that Manhunter was based on the book Red Dragon (which is where the film Red Dragon later came from and the first book in which we meet Lecktor) and that Silence of the Lambs was based on a different book (Silence of the Lambs which is where my confusing 'book of the same name' comment came from, which if I remember correctly is the sequel to Red Dragon).

I do agree with all your points about the two films though, IMO Manhunter is a far superior film [smile].

HQ. Sorry, my mistake also. I misread your post. Yes, based on different books (same author) but in the same mold, so to speak.

Yes, very much in the same mould [smile]

Blister was my CB handle when we use to run them in our vehicles. It was given to me by a buddy of mine. It's been many years since it was given and I don't remember all the circumstances surrounding the name being given (wink, wink), but it stems from the old saying about “a blister showing up after the work is done.” I added the 911 for a couple of reasons:
1. I’ve run into places where blister has already been used
2. Because I keyboard/mouse all day long, I joke with my buddies that if I get blisters on my fingers I might have to go to the emergency room.

Most people refer to me as a clown upon first meeting me. I possess a lot of sarcasm and multiple other senses of humor. Friends refer to me simply as "clown" or "the clown" when we are in a formal setting. The handle spelling is kind of an ode to the old school hackers I idolized throughout my grade school and junior high days, who used the modern-day "l33t" to spell out their aliases, even though the tables have now turned and more of my focus is now upon making applications less hackable.

I like Excel and use it almost exclusively for my work as a Reliability Engineer. I go on holiday in Spain a lot, so I'm learning Spanish, hence "I Like XL" = "MeGustaXL

Stuggling for a name for yahoo / flickr that wasn't Stu1834t6483762378 or something as stupid as that, then on came a Nissan Advert (Micra I think?) and that was their hook line.

tapped it in and bingo, nice and free.

I read this forum daily but rarely post. I am found mostly on the 'Point of Sale Systems' forum if you check my porfile. Which is where my handle comes from. I started with a form of my name and after a discussion on DTS cash registers, which were from the 70's and 80's, my new handle was born.
