Hi, I'm new to Indesign, actually I'm trying the product, because I want to move from Pagemaker.
I know ID can't handle footnotes automatically, but what is the more efficient way to do this manually?
In PM I have all the footnotes in a separate story that I keep in the pasteboard and put them into place while setting the document, but could't find a way to do the same in ID, since each spread has its own pasteboard.
Thanks for any help!
Gaby

If the original was created in Word, or can be converted to Word, ID will allow the import of footnotes. You have to click Show Import Options on the Place window. The layout might not be what you want, but you'll get the footnotes separated.

I don't have to play with foonotes much at all, so I'm not sure what Pagemaker could do. If it handled them, you might try looking for ID Pagemaker edition on the Adobe site (upgrade form Pagemeker) and see if it contains the Pagemaker Plugin Pack, which give you a lot of things available in Pagemaker. Adobe also used to sell it separately for $49. I came with my copy of Creative Suite Premium (which is only $750 as an upgrade from any version of Photoshop). That means that I have it, but don't know exactly how many features it provides over plain ID.
