I have a brochure that has a total of 6 footnotes. Footnote number 6 is giving me indigestion! For some reason, the auto number feature has decided to begin renumbering so #6 comes out as #1. Is there a way to force the numbering? I've tried the restart numbering feature and this causes the footnotes to begin numbering from #6 backwards! I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi,

To solve your problem go to the Menu "Type" > Document footnote options.

You get an info menu. There you will find a checkbox to 'restart numbering', uncheck it if you want the numbering to be continuos.

That should solve the problem, and check all the other options you can find here, very interesting.

Thanks, Carlow. I've done that. I think the problem is with the threading... I moved one page to a new location and that's when I lost the thread and I think that's what is causing the problem. The particular page in question does not show a thread to any previous pages but when I tell it to start numbering at 6, it changes all the footnotes BEFORE the page. Weird. I don't know how to re-thread the page to fit the page before and after. Sigh... the software is frustrating, to say the least!

Hi,

Tried to remake your problem.

You probably selected the text frame and did cut paste on a different page.

When you do this the threading is lost an d the footnote-numbering threading as well.

To move pages to a different location you do it in a different way.

Go to the Pages palet;

Select the page you want to move. See that is blue.

Click on it and drag it to its new location. Now the threading is kept and the numbering continues.

Your target page will take the place of the moved one, they actually switch.

The software is not frustrating, the logic behind may be... :)

hope it helps
