Hi all,

I have to print an invoice (sometimes several at a time), the last page of each invoice should have a footer, all pages of the invoice have the same header.

I have put the header in the page header section and the footer in the page footer section. (My best results come from this configuration)

If I have a footer with 12 lines on the last page, this space is reserved on ALL the pages, so on page 1 I have 3 inches of nothing at the bottom of the page.

Is there anyway to compress the page footer, the section is actually deleted using a selection formula in the section editor.

Hopefully,
phirst.

A conditionally suppressed page footer or page footer subsection will reserve space. Same with Page Header.

Use the group footer instead of the page footer, and format it to "print at bottom of page". It will print just above the page footer. If you don't need a page footer, suppress it completely and the Group footer will be the bottom of the page. Ken Hamady

Hi Ken,

I have already tried using the group header and footer, this does not work properly either:

On the last page of the invoice I have a footer 3 inches high. On all other pages I have a 1 inch footer.
If all my invoice lines fit on page 1, then page 2 is printed with the 3" footer ONLY and I have checked "repeat group header on each page".

Is there a work around?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Ken,

It would probably be easier to suppress the report ;-)

I finally managed to get things to work.

It was a very complicated report and it is not easy to explain things in words.

Here are some key elements to my success:

Besides the header and the footer, I had to print boxes and lines, the length of which depended on whether the page had a footer or not.
I finally put the footer in the detail with a formula so it would only print at the end of the invoice, I made the section print at the bottom the page. This worked nicely ::)
The fun bit was managing the boxes. I created 2 group headers, one for the boxes with the footer and one without.
I drew the boxes and lines in the group header and made the section print under following sections (underlay).
And BINGO, Bob's your uncle, or whatever exclamation you prefer, my invoice came out as planned.
A bit of perseverance and you get there in the end!

Cheers,
phirst.
