The company I'm working for uses Netscape Proxy Server. Since a few weeks they have setup a filter to allow only netscape browsers on the net. I know that Proxy Server scans HTTP_USER_AGENT for "MSIE" and then gives the message "Proxy doesn't allow the use of your client program" if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer. So, it should be enough to just change HTTP_USER_AGENT to fool the proxy server and make it believe you are using Netscape iso IE. I changed several User Agent keys in the registry and the browscap.ini but so far, with no result. Can somebody help me out here?

Just curious: why would they restrict you to only using Netscape?

That sounds like Nazi coroprate america to me. Just thought I'd cheer you up a bit.
The only two ways I know to fix that are to:
1) Use Netscape
2) Take a large, heavy, sledge hammer to the proxy

If that doesn't work or is to inconvenient, take two advil :)

I don't have a clue why they restrict us to it. We have issues regarding netscape every day and still they hold on to it. It is incomprehensible, but we are stuck with the whims of IT :-(

It probably came down to someone in the IT department telling everyone that Netscape is the best browser. John D. Saucier

The reasons they are using Netscape are:
1) Ignorance of the facts
2) A human at a decision-making level has placed more value on a political decision ("We'll show that evil Microsoft")than facts-based productivity gains: welcome to working with humans
