FONTS WONT INSTALL ONTO ILLUSTRATOR CS??

Hi can anyone help me I have recently got a new pc and after loading Illustrator on have tried to install my fonts from a disc where I had saved them off from old pc. When I drop them into font folder I get a message saying that windows is currently using the font and to try again - I have no other programmes open when I am doing this and don't understand why when I restart Illustrator they aren't there??!!

I am using Windows XP!
