We had a hard disk crash and ultimately restored our software, including PageMaker 7.0 and Acrobat Professional Distiller 6.0. When I export from PMaker to PDF, the fonts convert to Courier. I can't seem to find any setting that would prevent this. Is the setting in PMaker or in Acrobat? Thank you.

Acrobat can't find the font and is using a substitute - I think. Check the pdf export setting (Distiller) and make sure that you embed the font and see if that helps.

Sometimes, just launching Distiller helps it locate the Fints folder on your machine.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

If you are experiencing random, intermittent Courier substitutions when printing to a PostScript device or to PDF even though you know the font is properly installed, go to Start>Settings>Printer. Right click the PostScript driver you are using, and go to Properties. Where you find the following settings may vary from driver to driver, but you'll probably need to click an 'Advanced Settings' button then a 'Fonts' tab. (you may have to poke around to find where to make these settings)
• In the True Type Fonts box, set 'Send to printer as' to OUTLINES.
• Under font substitution table, set 'download as soft font' for all true type fonts.

To ensure Distiller can find all the fonts used in creating your document, in order to embed them in the PDF, you must add this information to Distiller. The dialog box is found under Distiller’s Settings>Font Locations which lists all font locations on your computer, and allows you to add more. With a number of Adobe applications, not all fonts may be resident in the Windows Fonts folder. To find all font locations, do a search for fonts on your computer and add them to the list.
