Hello,

Here are my symptoms and what I did.

1. I started a new CMYK project and used specifically Adobe Fonts from Font Folio. Layed out all my text. Selected the appropriate fill.

2. When I go to print as Adobe PDF, everything is fine and when I look at the PDF and zoom in REALLY close the text is nice and smooth.

3. Going back to the *.ai project, I go to Save for Web (since it seems the only way I can save a JPEG in Illustrator, and I picked maximum quality and optimized is clicked. I hit OK and it creates the JPEG.

When I double click the JPEG on my desktop and zoom in close it looks REALLY JAGGED and awful.

What I don't understand is how I have seen JPEGS of company logos on the web as downloadable files, and when I zoom in really close, it still looks vector based.

HOW DO I DO THAT?

It might be better to save the AI files as GIFs rather than JPGs. GIFs are more suitable for making web images of vector graphics, as there are usually fewer colours. You can also elect to antialias, which may make for smoother images (esp text) on the web.

JPGs are a more suitable format for photos and other graphics that have lots of colour tones and gradients. Apart from throwing out excess colours (which adds to file sizes) GIFs don't throw out pixels as JPGs do. Which usually makes for better looking web graphics. Why not click on some of those smooth web logos you have seen and determining the file type? I'm sure most will be GIFs not JPGs.
