I've run into this problem ever since I tried Acrobat 7 and Acrobat Reader 7. I ended up rolling back all my clients in the office to Acrobat Reader 6 becuase of this problem. I never did find a solution for it and adobe has not seemed to realease any patch that address it so maybe I'm missing something. I'm not real sure how to discribe it so I'm posting this jpeg in hopes that some one will recognise it. When viewing the same PDF file with Acrobat 7 it looks like a foriegn language, the same PDF file viewed with Acrobat 5 or 6 looks just fine. Can anyone offer some insight?

It's certainly connected with fonts but this is very odd if the exact same PDF can be read correctly with Reader 6 but not 7 ON THE SAME COMPUTER. If in fact the PDF can only be read on certain computers, this indicates that whoever made the PDF did not embed the fonts, and those fonts are missing on the computers that cannot read the PDF correctly.

I can try that. How do I remove helvetica fractions exactly?

Hello,

i encountere exactly the the same problem - i'm not exactly shure, when it appeared but it might have been a microsoft windows update...
Fact is that i tried more than a day to install, deinstall reinstall acrobat, acrobat reader, fonts, ... and nothing helped.
A strong indication that this is no general font problem is in the fact, that documents created with acrobat itself have the same errors!

There are several threads posting this problem, but as usual the reports are charged to the 'silly users'.

I 'solved' the problem by simply using the free and very fast FoxitReader.
I am looking for alternatives to Acrobat since it is incredible slow, comes with tons of functions i don't need.

Has anybody a pointer to a freeware/open source tools for doing basic edit tasks on pdf files? Another very necessary function to me is to compress/optimize documents since pdf's sometimes contain a lot of unused garbage.

Thanks in advance, skc

The point has been made to click "Embed all fonts" when making PDFs.
One can go to "File--reduce file size" to compress and optimize PDFs, getting rid of all the unused garbage.
All can be done with Acrobat 7.
