I'm creating a file that uses "Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold". I have the entire font family which is something like 30 fonts. When I open my doc it says that font is missing and asks me to replace. There is a pulldown to select the replacement font except there it is "Helvetica Neue Bold Condensed" So I select it. It also shows all the other options in that family-like i said, alot of them. But when I open the doc and go to the font menu there are only a few of the Helv Neue to choose from- Bold being one of them. No matter how many times I resave it, when i re-open, I get the same message. So my question(s) is: Why do I get this missing font message and where have all my Helv. Neue fonts gone once the doc is open? Thanks in advance for anybody who may be able help.

Oh- and I'm using Font Reserve if that matters.

What OS, and how did you install the fonts?

You usually can't just copy fonts into your fonts folder, they need to be installed.

In XP, in Control Panel under Fonts you can do this. I would uninstall all fonts, then reinstall first, to see if that solves the problem.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

I'm actually using Mac OSX. Should've said that. Sorry.

I would still recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the fonts, it is likely you have a corrupt font. InDesign is very particular about a font being well designed and will balk on poor fonts. Other apps will be more forgiving with poorly designed or corrupt fonts.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Yes, it matters...

Check to see that the Font Reserve plug in is sitting in your InDesign Plugins folder.

Using the Font Reserve Browser, you can preview all of the fonts (actually viewing font sheets) and see if anything looks out of place.

How do these fonts work in other applications?

A very quick fix is putting a copy of the font files into the InDesign Font folder. It will be recognized and usable within InDesign. On a Mac, this works for both Windows and Mac fonts (True Type, Type1 and OpenType). On a PC, it works only with PC versions.

Thanks, I'll try that. It seems like it involves a conflict with my Helvetica Neue folder and a Helvetica Neue in the System fonts.
