I've developed an ActiveX component using Visual C++ 6.0 used on a web page.
On 99% of the computers the GUI of the component appears ok, but on 1% of computers, the buttons on
the lower part of the GUI don't show, unless I set the height of the ActiveX to be much bigger.
It happens because the fonts in the ActiveX appear bigger on these 1% computers. Although the font settings
and resolution are the same as in computers where the ActiveX works ok.
Any ideas why ?

This may be a "low-vision" thingy. And you might be surprised how many people do it even with 17" or larger monitors. I assume it is baby-boomer vanity (boy, aren't you glad I just deleted 10 lines of editorializing here - and I was born in '56!).

Have you tried checking to see if they have selected "large system fonts" for their machines?

This is an option located on the Advanced portion of the Windows "Display Properties" Settings property sheet.

In other words do something like right-click on the open desktop, select Properties, select the Settings tab, click the Advanced button. Look for Font Size dropdown.

I just set "Large Fonts" on my machine (Win2K - still made me reboot), and boy are things weird looking! My VB apps seem to have proper - though enlarged - window layouts, but my splash screens have grown, often beyond the size of the backdrop images I've loaded.

Worth checking though. Just an idea.

I turned out to be that some fonts become larger, in height or in width, depending on the locale of the machine.
For exmaple, appear wider if the locale is Japanese, appear higher if the locale is Hebrew.
