Crystal will not allow me to go smaller the 8 font. Is there a way to force it? And which font would take the smallest foot print on a report?

Try typing '7' or '6' into the font size box.
Does that work?

"And which font would take the smallest foot print on a report?" -> huh?

On my set-up (Windows NT and Crystal 8.5), the fonts and font sizes available in Crystal are just the same as those to Word, Excel etc. Talk to your PC experts if you need more.

I did try entering 7-point and this was ignored, it doesn't have it set up and so will not accept a request for it.

We use Ariel as a standard, with Ariel Narrow as an alternative. Times has a slightly smaller 'footprint' than Ariel, as doesImpact and something called Haettenschewiller. But what you have depends on the PC set-up.

What I did was to duplicate the same text in a crystal report and then set it to the various fonts, to see how well they came out, on a printer as well as on screen.

Incidentally, one of the formatting options is to change font when a particular condition is met, and it's a great way to highlight data.

You can also control colour and left-right-centre alignment for a single field. In one of my reports, most balances are right-justified but a negative is left-justified. Madawc Williams

I am going to answer my own question for those interested. I continued fooling around with it and "courier new" seems to take the smallest foot print. Beyond that, I was able to get the folt smaller then 8 by just highlighting the field on the report then going up to title bar and setting the font there and hitting enter. It won't let you go smaller then 8 using format of the field(Right mouse click, format) but you can do it off the title bar.

I had the same problem, but discovered that by selecting the relevant field(s) and using the icon "A-" on the tool bar (CR 8.0) I could decrease font size down to as low as "1" if I wanted to.

Yep .. i've found i can just type the size i want into the size box and it works, not that i ever want less than 8 usually anyway.
