I'm upgrading from V6.0 to 8.5. When I open a 6.0 report in 8.5 the font size of all text objects is decreased one size (Times New Roman 10 becomes 9, 12 becomes 11). The database and formula fields remain the size they were in 6.0. What's going on?

Also, after I increase the text fields back to their 6.0 size, the enlarged text fields don't line up horizontally with other fields I didn't adjust. For instance, 'Page', followed by the special field {Page Number} results in 'Page' being slightly higher or lower than the number field. No amount of tweeking will get them to align. This is resulting in very unprofessional-looking reports. Any suggestions?

I've had similar problems when I moved from Win98 to NT5. I had to resize fields - Crystal Decisions told me it was an artifact of the different ways these two OS's handle true type fonts.
And I had the same problem with the Page number - rather than change that on every report, I just formatted the Page number field to display a currency symbol, and set the currency symbol to "Page ". Then just copy this, and insert it in the reports that need it. This is a small part of the problem I'm sure - hope someone else has a broader solution...

Where they designed on the same PC? Same Printer driver?

If you want to align the objects you mentioned, put them both into a single text object. Ken Hamady

I did get a new PC recently. The old one, on which the reports were designed, was running Windows 95. This is an NT. I never gave the PC switch a thought but it makes sense.

I could imbed the page number field in the 'Page' text box. Whenever I've done that in the past I've left-justified the number field, then moved it over the text field, but there still seems to be too much space between the 'e' in Page and the number. Any tips on reducing the gap? When I edit the text field I type 'Page ' (with one space after the e).

I don't get that behaviour. If I don't put in a single space, the number touches the text. If you are really stuck I suppose you could write formula field like this:

"Page " + Totext(Pagenumber,0,"")

That should give you complete control of the placement. Ken Hamady
