I recently saw the line

<font face="Arial, sans-serif" size="-1">

what does the -1 achieve?

It means that the font between the font tags should be rendered one size smaller than the font around it. However, the font element is deprecated and all the attributes as well. You should simply forget this and learn how to style font via CSS instead.
