Font Samples?

Hi, I'm very new to all of this e-stuff. I'm trying to learn Pagemaker 7.0, and I'd like to print a sample of all of the fonts. How can I do that? I can't be the only one who'd like a hard-copy referrence of what a font looks like before I choose it, can I?

hey there,

no you are not the only one, who wants to know, what the fonts are looking before using them.
Alas there is no option within Pagemaker to display/print all the fonts as they would appear on screen in one big list. You could create a one file containing one sentence:
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog 1234567890" and format it with all fonts available in their one line. But this is rather tedious.
There are applications for download that might be easier than this. I.e. try ZDNet and look for "font display".

You best bet would be to find afont manager, sucha as Adobe ATM Deluxe (not lite), or Bitstream Font Navigator which is packaged with CorelDraw, or Extensis Suitcase.

These 2 are freeware apps.

All of them will allow you to view fonts, install and uninstall fonts easily. If you have more than 150 fonts installed, you definately need one of these apps to disable the extra fonts or else you will experience variousproblems with Pagemaker. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks, I really appreciate the help. You wouldn't believe how much time I've spent trying to find a way to do that. I just knew there had to be a way. After all, it doesn't seem to make sense that it couldn't be done when I consider everything else it does. Go figure!

This is the niftiest little program I have ever found that will do exactly as you originally asked - create a list of all installed Type 1 fonts (so it won't be able to do it with fonts stored elsewhere than the Windows>Fonts folder) using a sample of all those fonts. It works with MS Word and when you unpack the downloaded file, you place a template in your Word template folder, so you can select it by going to File>New. Once you have selected the template document, you can generate a list of all your fonts, using whatever string of words you want, in the size you want, with the name of the font next to its sample. Then you can print it off and pin it up for reference.
