Hi all,

I have a two part question. I spend hours each week in my data, with 8-10 tables open doing research. Do you have a font preference that you feel is easiest to read? I've been using MS San Seriff, set on (8)font size to fit everything on my monitors.

I thought I would be able to change the default font that my tables open in under "options" but I'm not seeing the place to do that. Can I do this with a statement when my tables are open?

Thanks for your input!

To answer the second part of your question, I assume that when you say you "spend hours in my data", you mean that you are working in the Browse window.

If so, then open any Browse window, go to the Table menu, select Font, and then selet your preferred font. That will change the font for the current Browse window.

To retain your chosen font next time, type BROWSE LAST to open the window, rather than just plain BROWSE.

Just to clarify, BROWSE LAST will retain the font for a specific table's Browse window. To see the same font for all your tables, you would have to set it separately for each table in turn.

If that's too much trouble, consider creating a custom form for displaying the data in a grid. You could have it dynamically choose the table that you want the grid to display, and you can control the font by setting the appropriate properties. However, I suspect you will find it easier to use the BROWSE LAST technique that I described.

Of course, you could also simply type BROWSE FONT "Verdana" for example. And if you don't like having to type the command in the Command Window, you could create a custom toolbare button or menu option to do it for you.

And I'll bet there are at least half a dozen other solutions to the problem. But I'll leave those for other folk to suggest.

Mike,

You are correct, I am working in the Browse window. I have found that I can set the font for each table manually as you described above.

Thank you for the Browse Font suggestion, once I find a preferred font, I may add that to the program that opens an sets up my tables. Have been using the Verdana, 8 for a short time, and it seems easier on the eyes the MS San Seriff.

We have experimented with setting this data up in form views, thinking it would be easier to view, but ran into trouble with being able to get the tables set to where they could be edited.

Thanks for your suggestions!

You CAN set a default font for Browse.

Tools | Options
Click the IDE tab.
In the Type dropdown, choose Browse
On the right-hand side, set the font and size you want.
If you want this to apply to every Browse window, including those for tables you've previously worked with, check the "Override individual settings" checkbox on the left.
Click OK.

As the next-to-last instruction indicates, you have two choices for what this effects: all Browses or only "new" Browses. However, in the second case, you can make a Browse seem new by deleting the relevant row from your resource file (FoxUser.DBF). The rows in question have an ID of "WINDBROW" and a Name of the table affected.
