I have a problem with a quark Document I am trying to Print to an HP 5000 through a PosterShop RIP. I've tried the file on an OS/X machine using Quark 6, and on a OS 9.1 Machine using Quark 4.11.

The font is a Myriad MM font - that for some reason is looking bolder on some letters then others. We're printing to a composite Postscript file and ripping the file through postershop. I don't think it's a trapping issue since we are printing it as composite. It is a rather large file (Printing at 400% to a total size of approx 89.75" High x 142.375" Wide - it makes a 700 mb postscript file - but we've handled larger.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I can't tell you the amount of aggravation MM fonts have caused in our shop. They might print properly to a laser printer or inkjet, but ripping the files for press is another story entirely.

The only suggestion I have is to change your MM fonts to a Type 1 font - or even TrueType. We have never had consistent results when ripping any MM font - at best they default to the book weight - worse case senerio, they error at the rip.

Much as I hate to admit it, this is a font problem - not a Quark problem - it doesn't matter what program we print with. InDesign, Freehand or Illustrator will sometimes work as long as the text can be converted to paths but 9 times out of 10 even that won't work.
