Why oh why oh why does my new Indesign keep telling me 'Arial bold' is not available when it's right there in the font box?? This happens constantly with several fonts.

You might look to see if tha Ariel Bold that's being called is Postsctript or Truetype. Preflighting will tell you what fonts, and font type, are in the document. If the fnt call is for PS and you have the TT version, it will be identified as missing.

I'll check that out, thanks. I assume that when importing Pagemaker files into InDesign some of that wrong font formatting is confusing InDesign. Would that be the reason for any continuing font warnings even after I've replaced the faulty typefaces with InDesign ones?

Yep. For some reason it sticks.

I just got something that had Adobe Caslon light. I don't have that face. I didn't need it since I was making the whole thing using just Myriad Pro and Nelvetica Neue. Every time I open the thing I get the missing Adobe Caslon light warning.

Would you get the warning if the font became part of a style, even though it didn't appear in the document?

jmgalvin -- yes, that's EXACTLY what's been happening here, glad to know it's not just me.

pbrodsky -- sounds like a good theory to me, anybody know for sure?

As long as you flight check before sending out or PDFing, it's not worth worrying about.
