For some reason my font and look has changed. Some characters even overlap. Somewhere I have changed some setting. Running xp home edition.

You could see if using System Restore is able to revert any accidental changes?

Any problems with the actual Monitor, can you try another one?

Maybe there is a problem with your Display Adapter, the driver or settings, (Control Panel/ Display Properties too could be checked). You could uninstall the driver via Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows rediscover the Display Adapter. You can check the manufacturer for updated drivers.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode with fonts?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

I believe my problem started when I entered display properties, appearance, advanced then enter item in item box. I can't believe there is not a default to check somewhere. I will check your suggestions. Thanks.

Right click properties, Appearance, XP style, Advanced, Now! my question "is there a reset or default to restore the appearance?" Thanks for the help, but links seem to be to restore whole system.

Another example,,,Properties, troubleshoot and the font is 0ver an inch tall with white background.

There is nothing under Display/Appearance/ Advanced to reset fonts. You could look at your DPI settings under the Display/Settings/ Advanced.

See if you can adapt or make use of anything in these articles?

How to Restore the Windows Default Fonts

Windows uses the Wingdings or Webdings font as its default display font when you install updates with antivirus software running on a Windows XP-based computer

In XP the Registry Key is now located at -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts

Restore Default fonts Options

A slight correction is necessary from me about Fonts and the Display/Appearance window. There is a box at the bottom of this window which is called Fonts, with options available (sometimes) to set the Font to Normal, Large, or Extra Large. I say "sometimes", because sometimes (in my experience) that box is blank, dimmed, or otherwise not accessible. Even if it is accessible, the difference between Normal and Extra Large Fonts is quite minor, and certainly nothing like that you are describing.
