font book

after a lengthy phone call with apple. my font book does not show all my fonts. They are all available for me to use in photoshop and quark but do not show up in font book. my problem is fixed (which was bad fonts for safari times roman).
For now, I am leaving it alone. but am a little worried. it only shows the 29 default mac fonts.

Check Frontbook prefs. Make sure that "disable collection" only disables the collection not all fonts in the collection. If you disabled any collection and this was not checked, enable the collection to activate the fonts.

Look at All fonts in fontbook and click the little arrow. See what the subheadings show.

You can always create a new collection and drag all your fonts from your fonts folder (or other as applicable). The enable that collection and diable others.

Linotype makes a free tool called "font explorer" - among other things, it can tell if some fonts are damaged and it can clear your font caches which might also be part of your problem.

i just checked my font book and it is showing only 15 fonts.
1) I am using 10.4.7 and there is no "disable collection" in preferences.

2) all my fonts work fine in quark and photoshop, even when printing.

3) I used a font cache clearing program yesterday call "font finagler".

4) the fonts evidently work, but i wonder why i can't preview them.

5) I have apple care, but hate to have to explain the whole situation over again to them. and i am not sure they know what i am talking about. since my original problem is fixed (times roman font numbers were showing up as roman numerals on the websites and emails)
