I'm temporarily short of C.O lines to use for testing purposes, so I'm trying to use a Compact system's ITA extension to call into another (NEC) telephone system. I've rigged it up, and I can call the other system, and reach the Auto Attendant. However, after I connect, the Compact is not sending out tones. I cannot dial an extension or make other selections in the Auto Attendant menu. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere in the Compact programming that addresses this issue, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone????

So i am assuming you are calling the ITA DN from a digital phone. You can try using F808 (Long Tones) to lengthen the tone duration. However I don't believe the ITA sends out the tones. Use a butt set to monitor the line to see if the ITA is even sending tones.

Nortel made an external ATA called a VMI.

Thank you for the response. Yes... I was calling the ITA from a digital station. I have used (Nortel)external ATA's for this purpose before and they worked well. I just didn't have one handy. I thought the ITA would do the same thing. Apparently not. I'll check it with a butt set... just for curiosity sake, and find another work-around if necessary. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
