Hi all,
I know in the big picture this is a small gripe, but in Windows Explorer in Svr 2008 (and I'm assuming it's the same in windows 7) it shows all folder icons as "open".

In past versions, only the folder icons who's contents are displayed in the right-side pane had the "open" icon, and all other folders were the "closed" folder icon.

It is so confusing and possibly dangerous when trying to figure out what folder's contents I'm actually looking at. (Yes I know I can look in the address bar but then I might as well go back to DOS--the whole idea of the GUI was to make this more intuitive).

With the new 'aero' visual themes, I would have expected even more 'meat' as far as visualization of the folders, but it appears that MS went for a cheaper, less intuitive Windows Explorer.
Thanks for any info on this,

The folder that you are in will be shaded in the left hand pane when the contents of that folder are displayed in the right hand pane. In my case, the shading is a light blue when I am in the left hand pane. That light blue changes to a light gray when I start navigating through the folder contents in the right hand pane. To me, it is easier to see which folder I'm in because of the shading. Mind you, I usually just look at the address bar anyway.

Hope this helps.

cmeagan,
Thanks for responding. Yes, the name is shaded, but the folder icon is still unchanged. So yes, there's a visual cue and it helps.

But what gets me was that if the folder pane is scrolled and you cant see the one that's shaded, it's just jarring to see all of the folders open--partly because this new folder icon is even more "open" looking than the old one.

Yes, as I'd said a small gripe, one I can live with, but...just another one of those "Just couldn't quite make it to the finish line, huh?" things that keep adding up.
Thanks,
--Jim
