My office has a mixture of MS Exchange based e-mail & peer to peer database applications used by individual sales people. Under '98 protecting folders with a password did the job for the peer to peer stuff, now an increasing number of the guys are buying pc with XP home pre installed. It appears than in peer to peer mode shared folders are open to everybody on the LAN! Is there a way to reinstate '98 style protection by passwords? We do not want to get involved with these guys & the domain servers in HQ.

The shared directory in XP Home is designed for just that - to share files - if you want protected files they need to be saved under the user's login in a folder/directory other than the shared directory.

Actually I think he is talking about using passwords on shared folders on the network. This is not possible with Windows XP Home.
