Hi there,
After creating new users, enabling Folder Redirection and connecting two test client PC's to the SBS domain in the correct way using folder redirection is working. When I log off I see the message "Synchronising" and the green progress bar moves up as files are transferred / synchronised.
However, one PC is storing the users files locally in C:\Documents and Settings\anna and then transferring them to the server when anna logs off and another PC is synchronising the users files in real time with the server.
PC1: This PC is storing the users "My Documents" folder in C:\Documents and Settings\anna on the local PC and is then moving all the data back to the server when the user logs off.
NOTE: When I first connected PC1 to the SBS using I chose the option "Set up the PC for other users".
PC2: Folder Redirection on this PC is saving files directly on the SBS while the user is working on their PC. The files in the "My Documents" folder on PC2 have the shortcut icon beside them which I thought was strange. To confirm this I changed the security rights on the users redirected files folder on my SBS so I could view the contents. Surely enough when I created a new file on their PC and saved it the file immediately appeared in their redirected files folder on my SBS. When the user logs off on this PC I still see the message "Synchronising" and the green progress bar moves up as file are transferred / synchronised - but they are already on the server.
NOTE: When I first connected PC2 to the SBS using I chose to set up the PC for myself. When I first logged on to this PC and looked in C:\Documents and Settings\ there was no folder for my user (called tom) but just administrator which is who the previous user was logged in as.
QUESTION: Why is one PC storing the files locally on the C drive and then transferring them back to the server when a user logs off (the way I thought Folder Redirection worked) while another PC is synchronising a users files in real time with the server?
Is it because when I connected the PC's to the server I set one up for "other users" and one up for "myself"?
I've looked around and cant find out why. I'm very curious. Can anyone help?
Appreciate your time.
