Hello all,
Not sure really where to put this because it is kind of a Windows 10 client issue as well as a server issue. We have Folder Redirection set up for Desktop, Documents, and Favorites through GPO for all our users. We had one Windows 10 user that seemed to "lose connection" to the server on May 1st that hosts the redirection and therefore the one document he updates every day was not copied to the server. He said he saves and closes that document every day so he knows he saved it. Usually when you save something in a folder that is redirected, it will pop up a saving completion percentage box that has the path to our server where his docs are stored. He said he noticed it didnt do that when he saved it over the last couple of days. After a computer restart due to Windows Updates, which fixed the issue apparently connecting him back correctly to the Redirection server, he has access to that document but its the May 1st version. Any idea where Windows would save a file if it temporarily lost connection to the Folder Redirection server? I looked in every user account on the local machine and coulndt find any trace of the document. I looked in the Previous Versions tab and no dice. Simply opened Excel and tried to open the last closed version of that document and no luck either.

We have a backup appliance that will do backups of his folder if it senses changes but it, as well as the server, have the last revision as the May 1st doc.....

Have you searched other possible Server paths? Anything he had access to as well as possibly in case something caused his files to point to another user's documents locations?

I only mention this possibility because a while back, I noticed issues where when setting up some new computers, for whatever reason, Windows was using redirection and pointing other users to my "documents" path. After an additional reboot or two, logging in with their credentials, it eventually cleared up. I thought that rather odd, myself.

In order to search all those locations, you likely will have to search from the server side, as in connected to that server as a local machine or remotely, and not just searching from your client machine.

I did try searching for that particular file in all employee folders on that server and came up empty. It only showed the old file in his folder. Not sure where the hell they went. Definitely not locally on his PC and not on the main folder replication server. Ill keep poking around and see if I can figure out where they saved at but not holding out any hope at this point. Just glad it wasnt a super important file/folder that went MIA.
