We are running Windows 2000 server with Windows XP clients. We are using the folder redirection feature via Active Directory and group policy. We have found out that with the my documents folder, the recycle bin also gets redirected to the server.

Question: Does anyone know of the script contents and/or solution to delete the clients recycle bin either on logon/logoff or with a script?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

computer policy>user configuration>windows settings>scripts(logon/logoff) comes to mind.

try a batch file with the command

del c:\recycl~1\*.*

You could also set the size of the recycle bin to a smaller size or even not to hold anything at all... right click recycle bin, properties

Seaspray0,

Although your tip is an excellent answer, I don't believe I made my issue clear enough in my original post. Using a group policy with Active Directory, we are redirecting the my documents folder to a folder scheme on a windows 2000 server. When a file is deleted from the my documents folder it is actually redirected to the clients folder on the server and placed in the "recycler" folder. Although it appears in the recycle bin on the desktop, the actual file storage takes place on the server. This has become a problem for us on our SAN.

I am looking for a solution that will empty the "recycler" folder on the server at client logoff. My attempts at this have failed using cleanmgr at the command prompt, which will not traverse a network drive mapping nor a unc path. Also, I have used XP group policies, but this only allows to delete without moving to the recyle bin. This is an alternative for us, but not a good solution for our clients.

Thanks in advance
