Not a major problem but an annoying glitch none the less. We have set up a folder redirection policy which is working to redirect the My Documents folder to our server.

This folder has been configured to allow offline files to be enabled if the user requests it. Note, this is not a automatic offline files.

We have a GPO that prevents desktop users enabling offline files but allows laptop users to do so if required.

When we first add a PC to the domain and login as the user it automatically makes this folder available offline (even desktops). If I then do a GPUPDATE /FORCE and reboot the PC the files are no longer available offline (as it should be). If I don't manually do this gpupdate then the folder tries to synchronise at next login, even though it's disabled for the desktop PC.

I was wondering if there is a way to prevent this from happening?

i think you are seeing the by design "2 logons to apply policy" behavior.
this can be tested, and erradicated, via thep olicy setting of "always wait for the network at computer startup and logon"

Thanks very much indeed. I will give this a go but it sounds sensible and even rings a bell from my training!

Ah back to the drawing board I'm afraid. This option was already enabled by our parent company and has been in place from day one.

To calrify the folder redirection is actually working. The problem is that for some reason the file is made available offline, even though desktop users are unable to use offline files according to the policy. A gpupdate and reboot seem to fix the issue as the files are then no longer offline enabled.

there is a difference in the csc caching mechanism that changes things up a bit. im actually meeting up with a buddy for lunch today whom is the CSC guru at MS. I'll throw this by him and see what he says :) Might as well, he never leaves me alone about PKI :)
