I inherited a network using roaming profiles. I have done away with most of it, but still have user's my docs and app data files redirected to their home directory on the server. That's okay, but I need admin access to those folders. I read this article from Microsoft and it looks like it would work well if done prior to enabling the folder redirection GPO, but I don't know how well it will work after the fact. Has anyone tried this? Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here's the link to the Microsoft article:

The easiest way to give yourself admin access to all the user directories it to Edit the ACL. Use cacls.exe microsoft utility to just add the admin full rights to the Directory and Sub-directories.

From you command prompt type cacls /? for info. The switch you are interested in is the /E (Edit ACL instead of replacing it). This will add the admin user without disrupting current permissions. You will also be interested in the /C switch as well.

Another version of the utility is xcacls.exe

NTFS PERMS (ACLS) were ment to be changed at any time. No problem making the a change at anytime.
