Hi all,

SBS2003 with XP Pro sp3 workstations.

I'm installing some software that requires the user to have read/write access to a subfolder of the install directory.

I have enabled the required access to the folder for all users in my 'users' group on several PCs. This works fine but has to be configured on each PC that will run the software.

How do I do this without having to manually change the settings on each users PC?

Thanks

Well, you could install the software at the client but choose to install it on a mapped drive pointing at the server, and that way you could just set the permissions once on the server and have it be that way for everyone. This is probably the best strategy if the app supports doing this. The fact that it wants to write to that dir may mean that you don't want multiple clients hitting that dir at once, so this may not work.

Otherwise you could use a script with CACL (google it) to change the perms on the client-side directory after you install the application. That could make the permissions change a trivial process. But if you don't really have that many workstations, it may be a waste of time to take the time to write and test it.
