Hi there,

How can I find out who changed permissions to folders? We have a few people in our department and permission seems to change over night. I took out permissions to several folders the other day, now they are back exactly the way it was before and no one knows why or who reinstated the permissions.

Thanks

as far as I know, there is no way to know who (which account) changed permissions on a folder -- I assume by that you mean the network rights granted to a user or group through Netadmin or through a user having the Access Control right. If your folder has several users with the Access Control right, those users are able (either through NetAdmin or through Windows9x) to grant or revoke other account's rights.

If another user has Access Control, he/she can get into the folder properties and add or delete trustees and permissions from the folder.

I would take a look at the folder's permissions and delete Access Control from users who don't need it.

I wonder if there is some kind of overnight audit going on looking for excessive permissions?

Hope that helps!
