I've got a Windows 8 Pro computer at a customer that has an external hard drive for backup. I do Mozy backup to it + a windows daily file history backup + a batch file backup using Robocopy. They don't conflict with each other - different destination folders on the external drive (G:).

The robocopy backup is set up like this:
A folder for every day on the external hard drive in the root (Monday, Tuesday, etc.)
A subfolder in each DAY folder (only for Outlook) being copied from C:\users\JoeBob\Documents to G:\Monday\Documents
A subfolder in each DAY folder for all other data from the data drive D: of the PC to G:\Monday\D

The robocopy backup works just fine and copies all the data. But, when I go to the external drive via This PC > G: > Monday folder, you cannot see the folder named D. You can access it if you put the path in manually (G:\monday\d) and see all your files.

Just not understanding why Windows 8 is hiding a folder named D

What happens if you name the folder to something other than "D" in case it is confusing it with "D" as in a D: drive and assuming that to be an Invalid name. Pretty weak but easy to check.

Yeah, well that was my analysis that it was some sort of invalid name, but I can't find anywhere that tells me that on the internet. I can try renaming, but I'm wondering if renaming the folder will do it or if it will still be tainted by the original name. I'll give it a try but I'm seeking the explanation as it's not really a technical problem for me - more of an esoteric search for knowledge.

Wondering if this is at all like the other post. Link

It almost sounds like the folder is HIDDEN. Look under options to turn on View Hidden Directories.

No logical reason for it to be hidden, but I can try an attrib when there next time.

Had to do an "attrib -s -h D" to be able to view the folder named D in windows explorer or at the DOS prompt.
