When I click a folder or the "+" (plus) to expand it, the folder moves out from under my cursor in order to make room for the list of sub-folders and/or files within. This makes it difficult to simply glance into many folders quickly since you have to keep scrolling up to find the folder again to collapse it. Is there a way to disable this feature? Thanks.

In Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View, you could select "Use Classic Folders", and in View (next to File, Edit etc.)/ Explorer Bar/ Folders, and uncheck that. This would give you a different view but more mouse clicks to open up folders.

These will talk about Explorer switches and other similar things.

I'm not sure there is any solution to your problem, as I understand it, in your current Explorer view.

Have you tried looking at Keyboards Shortcuts such as this -

NUM LOCK+MINUS SIGN on numeric keypad (-) Collapse the selected folder.
