Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...As a rule of thumb is there a limitation on the number of files that can be in one folder? What about a size capacity?

Just wondering...

Thanks,

Bob

There is the possibility that we could have up to 300,000 files in one directory. What about sub directories? Would the parent be affected by the sub directories? Are the subs governed by the same rules so to speak?

What exactly are inodes?

Bob

An inode is a data structure on a filesystem on Linux and other Unix-like operating systems that stores all the information about a file except its name and its actual data.
So number of files are not folder limited, but filesystem limited. On unix, 300000 files shouldn't be a problem,on windows however, I'm not sure.

R.
