Folder issue

We were having issues with an older windows server 2003 machine. We built a new Server 2012 server and restored the data. I now have a user when he opens a CAD program and clicks on the network drive (mapped to the server 2012) he does not see any directories that have spaces in them. If I map to the old server which is server 2003 he see all the folders and they display like Old Folder~1.
I can't rename because the folder is in use and I can't kick all the people out right now.
