Focus problem with MIMS Explorer

I am encountering a problem where MIMS programs opened using the MIMS Explorer are being opened 'behind' the explorer window. Many of my users are using displays with limited resolution which forces them to minimize the explorer before they can run the application that they have selected.

This becomes quite inconvenient when a user has three or four applications open. Is there a way to force new applications to open 'on top' of the MIMS Explorer and any other applcations that may already be open?

Thanks,

Glen,

We have the problem also and it has defied resolution by Mincom.

What version of Mims are you using?
(we are using 5.2)
How do you have it deployed (Citrix, on a server or on the PC) We have it deployed via Citrix

We have not only the Ellipse explorer - but also other applications "popping up" in front of the Ellipse screen

We had this same problem when we went from running MIMS on NT4 to NT5 (Windows 2000). We found that this was a Windows 2000 problem and there was a setting that we changed in Windows to correct this... sorry I cannot remember what it was, but i'll look it up.

I am having some success after making the following changes (source unknown):

Set the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
change the value of ForegroundLockTimeout from 200000 to 1

Additionally, I disabled "Show Screen Messages" on the MSQMUI properties pannel from the options menu.

After rebooting, this is working on a Windows 2000 workstation (stand alone). I haven't tried it on a Citrix server yet. Glen Colbert

Below is the document that we used... yes same resolution as Glen mentioned above.

GRAB THE FOCUS!

Thank you Pierre Szwarc (pierre.szwarc@laposte.net) for your cool trick!
"I found these settings by playing with the new Microsoft TweakUI Power Toy < for Windows 9x/NT4/2000/ME [110 KB, free, unsupported].
I used Windows 2000 Professional in these examples.
To do this, run Regedit (or Regedt32) and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Purpose: application window grabbing focus (Win2000 only, possibly WinME).
When a window that doesn't have the focus (in the background) is updated by its program, Win2K by default prevents it from becoming the topmost window. Instead it flashes the taskbar button. This is governed by these DWORD [REG_DWORD] Values:
ForegroundLockTimeout :
Value 200000 [Decimal]: background window not allowed to grab the focus (default behaviour).
Value 0 [Decimal or DWORD]: allows the background window to grab the focus (become topmost/foreground).
ForegroundFlashCount :
Value 0 [Decimal or DWORD]: taskbar flashes until clicked.
Value x [Decimal]: taskbar flashes x times (default is 3)."
