Had a hard drive go south on my hp. It has set for about 3 months. I found a used 20 gig hd to replace it but I can not get the floppy to work so I can format it. I was using the xp boot disks and went to restart system and it says operating system not found. Tried the xp boot disk again and it did not detect the floppy. Even went so far as to try the xp start-up disk. Still no go. It has a check mark by it in setup.

Floppy not working while trin to replace hd.

Insure your bios settings allow you to boot from CD or floppy...should be the second screen (advanced bios settings).
Also insure your basic bios settings recognize your hdd, cd-rom, and floppy. These should be on the first bios screen.

Check to be sure you didn't loosen the power cable or one end of the floppy cable accidentally while doing all the harddrive stuff.
