i have an HP pavilion that's only 2 years old and all of the sudden the floppy drive will not read any disk. at first i thought it was the disk, but after trying 5 or 6 different disks it gave the same error. it's running win 98 and i've never had any problems with it or any other drive on the machine. basically my question is, is there anything i can do before i just go buy a new drive.

also, i've already reinstalled the driver and tried to access it in DOS before windows even comes up so i know it's not a driver issue.

thanks for your help.

I would just get another floppy. You can get a new one nowadays for $10.00.

Funny, I remember when the cost was greater than $200!

Hi
plz find out while booting the pc the activaty LED of u FDD
is glowing or not
then check the power cable of the FDD comming from the SMPS
then replace the data cable of FDD then another thing is that check the connector of fdd
use the head clener of VCR and use it
i hope this will help u a lot
still prob not solve then replace the FDD and check out

The drive is probably dead. They don't last that long these days anymore because they aren't used frequently. The dust kills the read head. It's even better to keep a floppy inserted all times.
