When I open certain documents with Word, the computer searches the Floppy Drive for a second. This does not happen with all documents - just certain document. The template for these documents do the same thing. The normal template does not.

Any ideas on stopping this or what may be causing it?

Do me a favor and test this, preferably on a fresh restart/boot:

Using windows explorer, open c:\windows\recent and delete all of the shortcuts in there.

Open Word and go to Tools-Options, General tab and change the "most recently used" list to 0, close Word. Restart the PC.

Does it still do it?

I think it does this because, first, when you use windows explorer for any reason, i.e., file-open activates it I believe, it checks the "recents". If you move files using windows explorer and never access the floppy directly from the program so that the shortcut points to the hard drive and not the floppy, it stops attempting to access the floppy.

Test that out. I bet you find it's true.

Still does it, this problem has been happening for years. It is document specific.

Is there anything within the document or template that would cause this?

Hi,

Is the a:\ drive in the path in autoexec.bat, or do you have any virus software on your PC??
