My PC every so often will try accessing the floppy drive about 3 or 4 times for no apparent reason. This can be when the PC is idle or when I am in the middle of something, it doesn't seem to mind.

Can anyone tell me why, and is there an easy way to stop it happening?

Oh, the possibilities...

1. MS FindFast is running in the background (check in START->PROGRAMS->STARTUP);
2. You have an application opened which has been recently accessing floppy drive (e.g. - MS Office/Lotus Smartsuite apps had file opened from diskette and still have its record under FILE menu;
3. Anti-Virus software is checking your drives - very unlikely cause of your problems, but depends if the scheduler on it is setup in some strange way;
4. If 1-3 fails - check for any background apps - from STARTUP folder or CTRL+ALT+DELETE - that's a hard one since you need to know or guess which one of those might be accessing the drive.
