how do you read what is on a floopy or copy what is on a floopy to the hard disk?
 
depends on what you have

if unix filesystem stuff
mount /dev/fdx /mnt you need the correct device name
l /mnt
umount /dev/fdx

if tarred stuff
tar tvx with the x being the tar device

if dos stuff
dosdir or
doscp

the online manual pages will help
