Hi,

I have two servers which should act as backup for each other. One will be active and the other will be passive and should take over as soon as active server goes down. My question is "Can this failover be achieved using Cisco Routers?" Is there any concept of IP Failover or Floating IP in Cisco Routers? If not, please help me in this regard.
Is there any concept similar to HSRP for servers?

Thanks,
Anil

I would suggest looking at a cisco css11000 they are designed for that purpose.

You can configure your router to do a Round Robin using NAT.

If your servers are Windows based you could also look at NLBS (Network Load Balancing Service), this is only available on Windows 2000/2003 Advanced Server (not standard).

HTH,
Michael.
