Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to 'flip-flop' between 2 sql server 7.0 databases? and if so how best to achieve this?

We want to be able to provide a SQl database for use by a web based application, which in true web style needs to be available as close to 24/7 as possible.

Currently it takes approx 5 hrs to build the datbase (from Oracle database tables + additional processing) and plan (if possible)to build a 'copy' overnight whilst the live database is still being used, then at a predetermined time, 'switch' over the databases (in simple terms rename Live->Save, Copy->Live, Save->Copy (for recreating next night)) thus the downtime would be in minutes, rather than hours...

Any suggestions received with thanks.

Cheers

PaulSc.

We do this as foxdev suggested, by changing the connection string to the other database on the web server. Of course, this only works if you've programmed your web pages from an object orientation where the connection string is only defined once, rather than every time you connect.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
We have looked at doing this, however we have the problem that this database is not only used by the webSite but would also need to be accessible from Access databases and we would need to relink these evry time it switched...

Cheers
