I'm exporting a document from InDesign CS3 to pdf. In Acrobat, the "create links from URLs" option is turned on. Also, in the export funtion in InDesign, the "include hyperlinks" option is checked.

The document has many contact names and e-mail addresses and, for example, are formatted as follows: "Bob Smith, State University (e-mail: bobsmith@stateu.edu)".

The problem is Acrobat is reading "e-mail:" as part of the e-mail address. So, in Acrobat when you hover your cursor over the address, the preview is "mailto:e-mail:bobsmith@stateu.edu". Or click on the address to open your e-mail client and the address is "e-mail:bobsmith@stateu.edu", which is not a valid e-mail address.

To try to work around this, I've tried inserting discretionary line breaks, discretionary hyphens, extra spaces, and a myriad of other characters to "separate" the address from "e-mail:". All to no avail. Also, the only styling that is applied is a paragraph style. There's no character style nor any local formatting applied.

Formatting the addresses automatically is essential as this document is updated monthly. Turning off the "create links from URLs" preference is not an option as that would create an ungodly amount of work.

Any other ideas/suggestions are most welcome?

Thank you in advance.

Note: "e-mail" is the organizations house style and changing it to read as "email" is not an option.
