This is regarding working with circular objects in photoshop (created in PS).

I have a circle (company logo) that I have created at say 500px - 500px for example. I then copy this and want to reduce the size by say 50%. When I do this the top and left edges flatten out. I can't remember if it's only these two edges but that's irrelevant anyway (I think). This can be very annoying and also mean's that if I want to use the logo in something that requires a size other than that which I have, I have to create it all over again at the specified size rather than grab the original and scale down. I only get this when scalling down, I re-create if I want a larger version.

Is there any reason why it does this? I thought Photoshop was supposed to be a great tool for images. This one problem makes it a real pain in the a***.......

As far as I am aware it depends on how you created the circle.

What I usualy do is to create an image on an alpha layer in the channels menu.

If you do this then you can re-size an image tou your hearts content.

All you need to do is create a layer in the channels menu this will automaticaly be called Alpha 1 (u can change it by double clicking on it.)

Make your circle or other image on that and then go back tou your layers create the new layer and go Select> Load selection.

In the channel drop down list select Alpha 1 (or your selected name).

the setabout filling the selection, and away you go.

You could also copy your original circle into the alpha channel and use it that way

I hope this helps sort out yopur problem.

OK, not sure about this (always been a bit reluctant to use the channels cause I don't understand them).

I'll give you a run down on this particular thing I'm doing.

I create one circle that will be the mask.

Add a new layer.

I then CTRL/Click on the circle layer with the layer above selected and then apply a stroke to that layer.

Between these two layers I paste an image (marbles branding)and use the ALT/Click so the original circle layer is now masking the marbles.

I then link all these layers together so I can move/scale etc. them together.

When I try to scale the BAD thing happens, flattened edges.

If youi wanna see the image I'm talking about then it's here in the top left corner. This one hasent got flat edges though.

I will give the Channels way a go, about time I started learning what they're all about. funkymonk B-)
