Hello,

I have had two BCM 400s have flashing lights on it. The phone system would still function but I could not get into element manager since the ports where flashing. So I just toggle the power and the system would come back up with no problems. Has anybody else had this problem? I am worried because I have a couple of remote IP phones on one of the systems.

Tim

You may have the infamous Bad Cap on the BFT. I have replaced about 20 of my 60 BCM's so far.

I dont think so. The BCMs always come back up. Plus they are pretty new within the last year.

Mine alway comeback up for a few days and then the Vmail, serial port and IP port syop working. Save yourself some time and pull the BFT out (The bottom tray) and look to see if the CAPS are green and they may be bulging at the top and there may be a beige color crud coming out the top and/or bottom. I just replaced one BFT that we only installed about 14 months ago. The problem started with the BCM 1000 and continuied though the BCM 3.5.

I am having this exact problem right now with a 3.6 BCM. All data services go down, and the LED's all flash, but telephony services are fine. A reboot solves it for a couple days. It is not part of the bft cap recall. It has the blue caps. I am working with Nortel tech support right now to find the problem. I just uploaded the archlogs today, so when I find out the problem, I'll definitely let you know.

Is this patch installed on your system?

My problem is happening on a 3.7

It has been up since my first post.

I have had this same problem on 3 systems in the past 4 days. Sometimes a reboot fixes it but sometimes it doesn't. Did you find the solution to the problem yet. I have nortel working on it but they have no idea as of yet.

No I havent found a solution. But I can add another BCM400 to the list. Nortel said it was a bad box. The box was replaced with a CS1000M.

I just had the same problem you all described.

Flashing lights. Telephony and VM works fine. Could not access Call Piolt and Unified Manager. All IP Phones would not work b/c Tunnels would not come up. Reboot would solve all problems for about a day. Techs came in and reinstalled and configured from scratch... No problems since then.

You could also check for the release version of your MSC
card. It's on the white label of your MSC.
If the release number is lower than rel 05 and there's no
black wire barnacle on it, it means you're MSC is not hardened and that could be your problem.
Look for bulletin PAA-2004-0378-Global, all the recalled
MSC version are listed there.
I think there's another addendum to this bulletin but i
can't find it right now.
