Flashing Colors

My application needs to show flashing (or blinking) colors.
The application is composed of a main page containing a certain number of OCX's (developed by myself); it is not advisable to start a timer inside each of them to make the color flash as they have to do a lot of other things while the colors flash. Anyone can suggest me a good solution ?

Single timer on form. Select case statement block. Decide what to do with the case thing on each timer intrerrupt.
