Hello,
I am in search of a software that can be used to capture screens for demo purposes. Right now I use Camtasia Studios which can do the job but there is no way of reducing the file size. I want to be able to use a flash based software that can do the trick, any body have an idea of what I'm looking for?

Hi seefun,

There is a company called eHelp which makes a great product called "RoboDemo". I think it would be considered a competitor to Camtasia Studio. I have used both Camtasia and RoboDemo, and I believe both are good for building screen captures are creating animations which need to capture mouse movements, functionality, etc.

I would recommend RoboDemo over Camtasia for the following reasons:

1. Last fall Macromedia acquired eHelp and they have several plans for strong integration of Flash and their products.
2. I own RoboDemo and really like it! You can control the size of your animation (in SWF format) as well as insert other graphics in the timeline, add audio, etc.
3. eHelp also makes an additional FLA module for RoboDemo which allows you to take your animated clip into Flash and edit it to your heart's content.
4. RoboDemo is easy to use and is packed with features.

You can download a trial copy from and see if you like it or not.

Hope that helps.
