Flash vs Flex - Picture Rotator

I'm sorry to have to ask this but I was asked to build a simple rotating picture viewer for our Intranet.

I can write in AS 2.0 but have not tried 3.0 yet. I am a long time developer in VB and .net.

The problem is they want a different picture per day. This would be easy if there were only 31 pictures but there are a hundred or more.
Where is a good place to keep the day counter? Flash can't write to a file.
I was thinking a simple asp page or a .net page to feed the info to Flash. Possibly a web service that would dive it?

Am I better working in Flex? Sorry, I'm really new to Flex.

Any and all help would be geat.

Yes you can do this with AS2 (or 3) & any server side language. And yes you can do it with Flex (which is AS3).
